SENDING US YOUR FILES
You can send us a disk (CD or DVD), or better yet, connect
to our high speed FTP system. You must have a
FTP program to upload your data. Call or email us and we can help you get one.

Or use this link for the BEST FTP you

can get! SMART-FTP or FETCH for Mac's
(Just click and the link will take you to the proper download sites for the latest versions!)
Our FTP address is:

1. Label your disk or the files with your name and phone number.
Disks and transmitted files can get confusing.

2. Check your Graphic Links.
Before you send us a postscript or native file, check to make sure all your graphics are linked. Just select the File pull down menu, and select the Links Manager. If you want to print in 4 color Process, make sure these files are all linked to CMYK images. RGB prints in Black & White when sending to the Image setter, even if a color copy looks correct. If you are sending us a file in its native format, be sure to include those graphics.

NOTE: If you notice that your file is unusually large (more than 2 MB) or noticeably slow to work with, it may be due to the fact that you are storing copies of your high resolution pictures inside the native file. While in the Links Manager box, select the Options on any of your images. You should have your Graphics Updated Automatically, and not Store Copy in Publication checked. This will greatly reduce file size.

3. Zip Disks
If you are going to bring your files to us on a 100 MB Zip Disk, save your file one last time in the native location on your local computer. Insert your zip disk, and select File, Save As.
You will note in the Save As dialog box an option to Copy, saving All Linked Files. If you check this box, we should get the images we need to print your brochure.

4. If possible, send us a Postscript File.
     You actually have two choices:
     1. you can send us a postscript file, or...
     2. you can send us your file in its native (PageMaker, Quark, etc.) format.
Sending a native file, requires including all fonts and graphics. In addition, we must open
your file in order to print it. Accidents happen. A postscript file, on the other hand, includes all your fonts and graphics. It retains your page setup and any other idiosyncrasies you may desire. It's faster and easier for us, and it's cheaper and more reliable for you.

Always send a copy of your file, not your original file
Disks can get lost or broken in transit. And remember, accidents happen.

Supply only the file you want us to output
A disk with lots of files embedded in lots of folders can be confusing. Keep things simple.
Place your fonts in a font directory or folder. Place your graphics in a graphics directory.
Place your publications in their own directory.
Use a Linotronic printer driver
The printing parameters for your laser printer are different than those of a linotronic
image setter. You may not be able to apply crop marks, page information or even
separations. Load a linotronic printer driver (from Windows, System 7.5, etc.) and use
it for postscripting files. If you need a copy of the postscript drivers, check this page
first for PageMaker 6.0 or 6.5 Linotronic files. If you don't get these files to work,
      please call us.
Check your pasteboard
Did you move that logo off to the side and forget about it? Check
your entire pasteboard before postscripting your file.

Provide instructions indicating . . .

      Resolution: i.e.. 1200 dpi or 2400 dpi

      Line screen: i.e.. 85, 133, 150, 200, etc.

      Page size: i.e.. 8", 12", 14", 15.5".

      Number of pages.

      Number of separations

      Output desired: film or paper

Send us a hard copy with color separations noted
After ripping your file, we can preview it to ensure all the elements are there. And if you use
Courier in your document, highlight it on your hard copy. Most output devices use Courier in
place of a missing font, so the use of Courier can be confusing.

If you send fonts, include only the fonts used in your document
Don't copy your entire font collection to disk. And be sure to include the exact font you have
used. If you have used Helvetica Oblique, include Helvetica Oblique and not simply Helvetica.

Compress your files before sending them over the net
ZIP them, Stuff them, just be sure to compress your files before sending them over the net.

Don't send JPEG images
While JPEG compressed images transfer quickly over the internet, they don't print to an
     image setter.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) your Files to us - Don't E-mail them
Get yourself a program for transferring files. Smart-FTP is the program we recommend for
Windows Users. Fetch is used for Macintosh users. Both pieces of software are available
from us. Call (208)746-7599 and get the User Name and Password you will need for access.

Use a Check-Off sheet
You have probably been printing drafts to your laser printer. Now that you are ready to go
to an image setter or digital color copier, it's important you reset your printing parameters for
those devices. So here's a list of questions to ask yourself:

Did you link all graphics?
Have you composed your document for the Linotronic 330?
      Did you reset your resolution?
Did you set your output for 100%?
Did you place a copy of the fonts you used on the Zip Disk to bring with you?
